Land Management

Wasauksing First Nation manages our lands and resources in accordance with our own customs, traditions and practices, rather than under the land management provisions of the Indian Act. 

Asserting jurisdiction and autonomy over our lands and resources, Wasauksing First Nation and our citizenship can create laws that will further protect our lands for seven generations.

Land Use Permitting

Non-Member Access

All non-members are required to have written authorization to access Wasauksing First Nation lands (Parry Island Indian Reserve #16) for recreational purposes. Land Use Permits can be purchased at the Administration and Gathering Centre (one-day anchoring/sightseeing or overnight docking/camping). We are excited to welcome all our recreational land users back to Wasauksing First Nation territory.

Attention Non-Member Anglers:

1) As per Motion #05-27-19-8, passed at a duly convened meeting of Chief and Council on May 27, 2019, Wasauksing First Nation (Parry Island Indian Reserve #16) will no longer be issuing fishing permits to non-member/non-citizen anglers who access the First Nation for the purposes of fishing.

2 ) Any non-member/non-citizen accessing the First Nation for the purposes of fishing, effective immediately, is guilty of an offence under BCR #99-0099 Wasauksing First Nation Removal of Trespasser By-Law and/or the Trespass to Property Act.

Environmental Management Plan

As highlighted on our home page, Wasauksing First Nation’s Environmental Management Plan will provide the required guidance for Wasauksing First Nation administrative staff to adequately manage Wasauksing’s lands and natural resources as per the Wasauksing First Nation Land Code, and will assist in establishing an environmental protection regime that best serves and balances the community’s interests.

Our Environmental Management Plan received approval on Thursday, May 21, 2020. Excellent work Wasauksing!
